<img "alignleft" style="margin: 10px; cursor: -moz-zoom-out;" src="http://rivercitybooks.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/oscar.jpg" alt="http://rivercitybooks.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/oscar.jpg" width="136" height="361" />Pete Docter and Bob Peterson’s reanimated cinema Up got the Happy Orb for Superfine Animated Pic, plus the Metallic Herb for Optimum Reviewed Shoot of 2009. But can it construe the Unsurpassed Interpret Award?

Disney/Pixar’s 10th uninterrupted hit’s chances got a lot stronger now that it got nominated for AMPAS’ most prestigious collection, along with 9 else films:

* River Cameron’s billion-seliing sci-fi smasher Avatar
* Katherine Bigelow’s Iraq drama The Injured Trunk
* Quentin Filmmaker’s Earth War II fancy Inglourious Basterds
* Lee Daniels’ buyback episode Precious
* Jason Reitman’s dramedy Up in the Air
* Only Scherfig’s forthcoming of age tale An Upbringing
* Ethan and Prophet Cohen’s hopeless comedy A Capital Man
* Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi thriller Order 9
* Evangelist Lee Hancock’s redemption drama The Darken Side

This makes Up the original animated sheet since 1992′s Example and the Aggressor to get a oratory for Individual Situation. Nine geezerhood after that nomination, the Establishment of Motion Depict Subject and Sciences instituted the Individual Enlivened Boast Take assemblage, which some observers believed meant that lively films were rendered automatically undesirable for a Unsurpassable Impression nomination.

The condition became alter more glaring in the then 3 age, when Disney/Pixar’s Ratatouille and WALL-E were closed out of the Unsurpassable Image collection despite hypercritical and advertisement success: both films received the first reviews of any flick free in their various geezerhood.

AMPAS expanded the itemise of Advisable Render nominees to 10 this gathering so that writer unconventional-but-acclaimed films equivalent Avatar and Regulate 9 (discipline falsehood), A Earnest Man (comedy) or Inglourious Basterds (Humanity War II medium) would soul a shot at the head. That said, the category plant contains evident Oscar temptation equivalent Artful, The Injured Compartment or The Deception View.

“It’s not even a contest,” was the response an unnamed Disney exec gave the NY Times when asked to comment on Fantastic Mr. Fox’s Oscar chances against Up. Despite the swagger that some Disney folks apparently have, the Times warns that Disney and Pixar shouldn’t break out the bubbly just yet:

In a mid-December surprise, both the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association named “Fantastic Mr. Fox” the best animated movie of 2009. Similar awards from five other critics’ groups followed.

Fantastic Mr. Fox and Up are both nominated for this weekend’s Golden Globe Award, along with Coraline, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The Princess and the Frog. Since initiating a Best Animated Feature Film category in 2007, the Golden Globes have given the award to Pixar every year (Cars, Ratatouille, WALL•E). We’ll find out in a few days whether Pixar can make it four-in-a-row at the Globes.
